  • Camp-out #1

    Tents, outdoors, cooking on a fire, staying up late looking at the stars. The Crucifers are going overnight camping!

    May 10th to 11th in Fredericktown Ohio!

    This camp-out is for any man interested, and any of there sons. Right now we will allow fathers the discretion on age for their sons who are coming.

    This being our first, we are likely to run into challenges. If you are interested in coming please RSVP right away so we know you are at least considering coming.

    We will have a mandatory Teams call on Thursday May 2nd at 8:00pm that we will send your email in the RSVP the information for. At the meeting we go over basic planning and preparation for the event.

  • Crucifer April Family Work Day

    Saturday April 13th we will be heading out to the Children of Mary for a Workday. This will be a family event starting with Mass at 8:30am, so bring the whole family, young and old. We will be joining other volunteers for the Sisters Ora-Et-Labora work and prayer days.

    Moreover please RSVP, so we know which families are coming from our group. We may reach out to you before the event with what projects we are going to be working on, so you can bring any tools you may want to use. Additionally we may also try to coordinate helping the sister with preparing the main course.

    Location

    The Children of Mary is a semi contemplative order of religious Sisters. They have over 100 acres of woods with shrines, ponds, streams, rolling hills, at their Emmanuel House convent located south of Newark at:

    If this is your first visit, please be mindful the sisters do have a modest dress code.

    Schedule

    Mass will be at 8:30am, and follow the regular customs of the Children of Mary, expect there will be mostly Latin responses during the Eucharistic prayers, and communion will be at the communion rail via intinction and thus on the tongue only. The sisters will resume perpetual adoration immediately following Mass, as well as saying their order’s customary prayers of thanksgiving.

    After Mass and the thanksgiving prayers, around 10am (if you are showing up late) we will gather at the entrance of the welcome center and split up into groups. Families will split up and work at tasks like splitting firewood, building and mending fences and helping prepare gardens for the spring. There will be things for everyone to do from Men & boys, wives & girls and even the kids.

    Day’s Schedule

    • 8:30am – Holy Mass
    • 9:30-10:30 – Break up into work groups
    • 12:00pm – LUNCH
    • 3:00pm – The day ends with prayer and a Holy Hour

  • March Crucifers Mass and Winter Trek

    On Saturday March 16th, we will be hiking a day long trek starting with Mass at 8:30am at the Children of Mary in Newark Ohio.

    When arriving enter through the Pleasant Chapel address turning right into the drive. Follow the signs for the Chapel: Turn left down the hill at the caretakers workshop and Log cabin, and then turn left at the first fork in the road at the crucifix and giant wood monstrance. If there is a large amount of snow or ice, please park at the caretakers Log cabin and hike down to the Chapel.

    Preparing for the Day

    The sisters property offers a lot in the way for exploring. The property located around Flint Ridge: has two lakes, miles of trails and lots of hilly terrain. Our Goal will be to map the current trails of the property. We will use a combination of landmarks, paper maps, gps tracking on cellphones and our whits. Crucifers should plan on bringing a packed lunch and snacks, bring water, and dress for the weather. We will say the Rosary, Chaplet of Divine Mercy and possibly the Stations of the Cross. Bring your Crucifix, and your favorite walking stick.

    Schedule:

    8:00-8:30 arrival – Welcome Center below the Chapel

    8:30am – Mass followed by prayers of thanksgiving

    10:00am – Snack and planning

    10:30am – Lake and Stations (South East Trail)

    Noon – Lunch at the Welcome Center

    12:30pm – Northern Trail Exploration

    2:00pm – Depart

  • 3rd Crucifer Winter Trek February 17th

    Mount Gilead State Park

    We will be holding our 3rd Winter Trek on Saturday February 17th at 9:30am. We will be meeting at Mount Gilead state park in the parking lot by the second playground and parking lot area on the East entrance.

    As for all our hikes bring a Rosary and Crucifix. This time we will be stopping for a light snack so bring some food to eat. If you have a walkie-talkie or hand held radio that can do FRS (channel-sub channels) bring them with a fully charged battery.

    The days plan is to hike around the lake and pray our daily Rosary. Then to brake out the radio’s and split into teams to discover the various network of trails. After breaking for a light snack and the weather is good we will divide into teams and play Team CTF.
